Frequently Asked Questions

  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
  • NOTIFICATIONS
  • NOTIFICATION_ACCESS is only required if you activate Remote Restrictions in Settings to allow an authorized person to add items remotely using Telegram or WhatsApp.
  • RECORD_AUDIO is only required if you want to add items using your voice, or record audio.
  • CAMERA is only required if you want to take photos.
  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION might be required if you want to change color themes based on the sunrise/sunset times. (See the FAQ and Privacy Policy below regarding location tracking.)
  • DRAW_OVERLAY is NOT required, but it is safe to grant the permission if Android keeps requesting it.
  • The 3rd-party app required for barcode and QR code scan support is available here:
    AutoBarcode
The price is 1.19€ in Europe. No customisation should be required.
  • The following free app is required for sending a response when an authorized person has added an item or items to one of your lists remotely:
    Notification Listener
  • The ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission is requested only if you enable the option to automatically change the color theme based on sunrise and sunset times. Even then, the location is checked just once every 24 hours.

However, depending on your Android version, you might be able to achieve the same effect using Android’s "Dark Mode" setting. This setting lets you choose between "Sunset to sunrise" and "Custom schedule". To use this, select "Sunset to sunrise" in your Android settings and choose "System" as the automatic option in MemoLists. Keep in mind that this requires Android's location services to be enabled, even though MemoLists itself does not, and cannot, use it.

  • MemoLists is designed to be useful anywhere in the world, which is why it includes several translation features. These are especially helpful for people who speak languages other than their native one, as well as for travelers visiting regions where a different language is spoken. MemoLists works with the following types of languages:
    • Device language

    • The device language is the language in which most text appears on your device. It usually matches the local language of the region—like Spanish in Spain or Japanese in Japan. You can change this language in your Android settings.

    • Primary language

    • The primary language is the language used in the MemoLists app. It's usually the same as your device language, but you might prefer a different one based on your needs or background. You can change this in the MemoLists settings.

    • Secondary languages

    • The secondary language—or languages—allow you to use your voice to add items to MemoLists. Since many people speak multiple languages, you can add as many secondary languages as you like. However, voice support depends heavily on your device and sometimes your region, which is outside of the app's control.

    • Target language

    • MemoLists can automatically translate items you type or speak into a specific language, known as the Target language, This feature is especially useful when traveling, maybe to create a shopping list or a personal phrasebook in the local language. Translated words appear in your list, and if you want to see the original version, just double-tap the word to reveal it in the source language. The current target language is shown on the screen and can be changed in Settings.

For more details, check out the interactive help in MemoLists.

  • Being developed using Tasker it carries certain limitations compared to "real" apps, and one of them is a limited way to ensure that the screens (or scenes) look more or less the same across the board. During testing the worst case encountered was a very cheap phone presenting itself as S25 Ultra with Android 13.0 (turned out to be wrong) and a big screen with the resolution 1230x540. Not very impressive!
